Titan Bioworks is advancing the boundaries of synthetic biology, making protein polymers via fermentation. We use a Split Intein microbial fermentation platform that can unveil a new era for human designed biomaterials, by polymerizing highly repetitive proteins of ultra-high molecular weight. Our first product candidate is an advanced material based on titin, a protein from animal muscle responsible for contraction. Titin polymers show a unique combination of advantageous mechanical properties that make them ideal as high-performance materials, with potential applications in the defense, medical and food industries. And, due to a novel fermentation method, titin can be bio-produced sustainably.
